I Recommend

Recommend. Be recommended. The mathematics of the Matrix pulls creators together like gravity. Creating global pathways, global ubiquity, global unity. In a small world, great things are possible.

Life & Work

  • Bio: Shannon Ali (Shannon J. Effinger) has been a freelance arts journalist and cultural critic for over a decade. Her writing on all things jazz and music regularly appears in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR Music, Pitchfork, Bandcamp, EBONY, Jazziz, Jazzwise, and Downbeat, among others.

Shannon penned the liner notes for the new album LIVE by Angel Bat Dawid and Tha Brothahood. Recorded mainly at Haus der Berliner Festspiele during JazzFest Berlin in fall 2019, the performance was an impassioned response to the racism both she and her bandmates faced on the first stop of their European tour. This 140-gram vinyl release includes a gatefold cover, featuring a translation of her notes into German, courtesy of journalist Julian Brimmers.

I'm Sparrow. I built this matrix so that every creator on the planet would be conceivably findable and accessible from all others, beginning with musicians in Bahia, Brazil. The matrix combines recommendation by both artificial and human intelligence (human preferred) and the small-world phenomenon (responsible for the fact that most humans are within 6 steps of most others) in a simple but powerful manner which has never been used before.
