Itamar Vieira Júnior is a novelist and short story writer from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, currently living in São Paulo and working as a journalist.
His doctorate in Ethnic and African Studies from the Federal University of Bahia is based in the study of quilombola communities in the Brazilian Nordeste (Northeast), these being communities founded by formerly enslaved, including people who ran to freedom during the time of slavery.
