Life & Work

  • Bio: Restlessness and a taste for diversity did not become a hallmark of Deborah Colker's work by accident. Created between the solitude of the study of classical piano and the practice of a collective sport, volleyball, the choreographer from Rio de Janeiro started in contemporary dance as a dancer for the Joker, from Uruguayan Graciela Figueiroa, a group that marked the time in Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s.

In 1984, at the invitation of Dina Sfat, an actress of mythological contours in the Brazilian theatrical scene, she started what would be the main aspect of her career in the following ten years: movement director - expression specially coined for her by the director Ulysses Cruz to underline the relevance of his work in the final result of a few dozen theater shows with which he collaborated during this period.

The rubric, which would eventually be incorporated into Brazilian scenic jargon, also applies, and with precision, to the role it played, for example, in the creation of the puppet movements of TV Colosso - a milestone in Brazilian children's television programming of the years nineteen ninety.

Before or after founding, in 1994, the company that bears her name, Deborah Colker printed her brand in territories as different as the music video, fashion, cinema, circus and show. He also inscribed his name in the history of the greatest mass spectacle on the planet: the parade of the Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro, the greatest symbol of Rio's carnival, to which he contributed repeatedly by signing the choreography of front commissions of large associations, such as Mangueira, Unidos do Viradouro and, more recently, Imperatriz Leopoldinense.

The unusual gift of extracting from each body its fullest channel of expression and transforming it into a powerful and singular instrument of communication, in any of these languages, made Debora Colker a character at the same time multiple and unique in the contemporary panorama of the performing arts .

Widely recognized by international critics, the excellence of her work as a choreographer was honored in 2001 with the Laurence Olivier Award in the category “Oustanding Achievement in Dance” (most notable achievement in dance).

Five years later, it motivated FIFA's invitation to give life to the only dance show to feature in the cultural activities grid of the 2006 World Cup in Germany: Maracanã - later incorporated into the CIA DEBORAH COLKER repertoire under the title from Dynamo.

One of the greatest honors, being Director of Movement for the Rio 2016 Olympics, showing a visual show representative of the energy of the Brazilian people. This show also included iconic elements of her work as a choreographer.

THE INTEGRATED GLOBAL CREATIVE ECONOMY

Humanity has never had this before.

"I am thrilled to receive your email! Thank you for including me in this wonderful matrix."
✅—Susan Rogers
Personal recording engineer: Prince, Paisley Park
Director: Music Perception & Cognition Laboratory, Berklee College of Music
Author: This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You

The matrix was born in Salvador's Centro Histórico, where Bule Bule below sings, among magisterial colleagues for whom this matrix was originally built, "Chegou a hora dessa gente bronzeada mostrar seu valor... The time has come for these bronzed people to show their worth..."

Music & lyrics (Brasil Pandeiro) by Assis Valente of Santo Amaro, Bahia. Video by Betão Aguiar
>

The matrix provides a means by which those above, those below, and EVERYBODY ELSE in the creative economy can be divulged everywhere. Something new under the sun.

Quincy Jones can curate Gilberto Gil, for example. And Gil can curate, writers, dancers, filmmakers, painters, record producers, set designers...

And by the mathematics of the small world phenomenon, everybody in the matrix will tend to proximity to everybody else, in the same way that most human beings are within some six or so steps of most others.

The difference being that in the matrix, these steps are along pathways that can be travelled. The creative world becomes a neighborhood. Quincy Jones is right up the street and Branford Marsalis around the corner. And the most far-flung genius you've never heard of is just a few doors down. Maybe even in Brazil. Laroyê!
"Matrixado!"

✅—Founding Member Darius Mans
Economist, PhD, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
✅—Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva
President of Brazil

"Many thanks for this - I am  touched!"
✅—Julian Lloyd Webber

That most fabled cellist in the United Kingdom (and Brazilian music fan)

"I'm truly thankful... Sohlangana ngokuzayo :)"
✅—Nduduzo Makhathini
Blue Note recording artist)

"Thanks, this is a brilliant idea!!"
✅—Alicia Svigals
Founder of The Klezmatics

"This is super impressive work ! Congratulations ! Thanks for including me :)))"
✅—Clarice Assad
Compositions recorded by Yo Yo Ma and played by orchestras around the world

"Thank you"
(Banch Abegaze, manager)

Tap people, tap categories, tap curations... The matrix is a maze of tunnels within King Solomon's mines.

A ECONOMIA CRIATIVA GLOBAL INTEGRADA

A humanidade nunca teve isso antes.

"Fico muitíssimo feliz em receber seu e-mail! Obrigada por me incluir neste matrix maravilhoso."
✅—Susan Rogers
Engenheiro de gravação pessoal para Prince: Paisley Park
Diretora: Laboratório de Percepção e Cognição Musical, Berklee College of Music
Autora: This Is What It Sounds Like: What the Music You Love Says About You

"Matrixado!"

✅—Membro Fundador Darius Mans

"Muito obrigado por isso - estou tocado!"
✅—Julian Lloyd Webber
Estamos tocados também Sr. Webber!
Merecidamente o violoncelista mais lendário do Reino Unido (e fã da música brasileira)

"Estou realmente agradecido... Sohlangana ngokuzayo :)"
✅—Nduduzo Makhathini
Artista da Blue Note)

"Obrigada, esta é uma ideia brilhante!!"
✅—Alicia Svigals
Fundadora do The Klezmatics

"Este é um trabalho super impressionante! Parabéns! Obrigada por me incluir :)))"

Composições gravadas por Yo Yo Ma e tocadas por orquestras ao redor do mundo

Toque em pessoas, toque em categorias, toque em curadoria... O matrix é um labirinto de túneis dentro das minas do rei Salomão.
