This conversation will be focused on the history and importance of two independent record labels: San Francisco’s 415 Records and Brooklyn-based Daptone Records. While each operated in different musical spheres (new wave and punk, and funk and soul, respectively), both small labels had a disproportionate impact on their genres and beyond. In an interview style, Bill and Jessica will discuss 415 and Daptone’s social and political history, the ways each have affected popular music today, and the writing process.
