Eleanor W. Taylor, Chair of the Department of English at Howard University, along with poet and founder of Third World Press, Haki Madhubuti come together in honor of celebrating Hearts Day 2008 with award-winning writer, Edward P. Jones. He talks about black culture, black language and his love for reading. They conversed about the dying language of his mothers tongue because it was a particular way blacks spoke English. Jones feels that his pleasure in reading books kept him of the streets. If he was a youth in this generation he probably would not have found his writing potential because of all the distractions from the streets and technology. He expresses the youth of today with "a freedom of destruction" for their lack of reading. He also elaborates on the characters he's developed in this book called "Lost In The City" as well as what makes for an interesting story is telling the entire story. An interview that lets us know how Jones has not managed to change because of his success.
