Nascida em Salvador e criada na Baixa do Bonfim, na cidade baixa, suas influências residem nas vozes de Gal, Bethânia, Elis, Amy e Lauryn Hill. Elas estão presentes no mar de Dorival Caymmi, no ritmo de Djavan e no gingado dos Novos Baianos.
Ela iniciou sua vida profissional ainda adolescente, liderando trios pelo interior da Bahia e cantando em produções teatrais. Mais tarde, viajou pelo país liderando o grupo Samba Dibanda. Frequentou a Oficina de Canto da UFBA e a Escola Baiana de Canto Popular. Seu primeiro projeto solo foi "Illy canta os cem anos de Caymmi" em 2014.
Com base no Rio de Janeiro desde 2016, lançou o EP "Enquanto você não chega" produzido por Alexandre Kassin e emplacou "Só eu e você" na trilha sonora da novela "Sol Nascente" da TV Globo.
Seu primeiro álbum, "Voo longe", foi lançado em abril de 2018 e recebeu críticas entusiasmadas dos veículos de mídia em todo o Brasil. No álbum, Illy interpreta diferentes gerações de compositores como Chico César, Arnaldo Antunes, Djavan, J. Velloso, Quito Ribeiro, Jonas Sá, Alberto Continentino, Davi Moraes e Pedro Baby.
No início de 2019, a cantora baiana interpretou "Pelos ares" no álbum "Nada ficou no lugar" com a nova cena interpretando Adriana Calcanhotto e lançou duas novas versões de "Só eu e você": uma em formato acústico, produzida por Moreno Veloso e com um belo solo de ehru (um tipo de violino chinês com duas cordas). E a outra intitulada "Só eu e você na pista", uma faixa de dancehall com participação de Duda Beat e remix de Tomás Tróia, um verdadeiro sucesso da nova cena.
Outras colaborações importantes para a cantora naquele ano foram com Silva, no single "Nós dois aqui", lançado em fevereiro pelo artista do Espírito Santo, e com Arnaldo Antunes e Baco Exu do Blues na versão "Devagarinho 2.0".

Born in Salvador and raised in Baixa do Bonfim, in the lower city, her influences lie in the voices of Gal, Bethânia, Elis, Amy, and Lauryn Hill. They are found in the sea of Dorival Caymmi, in the groove of Djavan, and in the sway of Novos Baianos.
She began her professional life as a teenager, leading trios through the interior of Bahia and singing in theater productions. Later, she traveled the country leading the group Samba Dibanda. She took classes at the UFBA Singing Workshop and at the Escola Baiana de Canto Popular. Her first solo project was "Illy sings the hundred years of Caymmi" in 2014.
Based in Rio de Janeiro since 2016, she released the EP "Enquanto você não chega" produced by Alexandre Kassin and landed "Só eu e você" on the soundtrack of the Globo TV soap opera "Sol Nascente".
Her first album, "Voo longe", was released in April 2018 and received rave reviews from media outlets across Brazil. On the album, Illy sings different generations of composers such as Chico César, Arnaldo Antunes, Djavan, J. Velloso, Quito Ribeiro, Jonas Sá, Alberto Continentino, Davi Moraes, and Pedro Baby.
In early 2019, the Bahian singer performed "Pelos ares" on the album "Nada ficou no lugar" with the new scene interpreting Adriana Calcanhotto and released two new versions of "Só eu e você": One in acoustic format, produced by Moreno Veloso and featuring a beautiful ehru (a kind of Chinese violin with two strings) solo. And the other titled "Só eu e você na pista," a dancehall track featuring Duda Beat and remixed by Tomás Tróia, a true hit of the new scene.
Other important collaborations for the singer that year were with Silva, on the single "Nós dois aqui," released in February by the artist from Espírito Santo, and with Arnaldo Antunes and Baco Exu do Blues on the version "Devagarinho 2.0".

This Matrix (a matrix in the original sense of the word: "source", from "mater", Latin for "mother") is a small world network in which creators may connect to (recommend) other creators and be connected to by other creators. And where, like stars coalescing into a galaxy, creators in the Matrix mathematically gravitate to proximity to all other creators in the Matrix, no matter how far apart in location, fame or society. While the Matrix's utilization of small world gravity is unprecedented, small world networks are all around us, even inside us: our brains contain small world networks. Humanity itself is a small world network, wherein over 8 billion human beings average 6 or fewer steps between any two given people, anywhere. Those steps are seldom all transitable though. In the Matrix they are. In a small world great things are possible.
How is it that the seeming magic of small world networks does the trick? An explanation in Hamlet's nutshell:

Imagine 10 doorways, each capable of taking you to a person somewhere around the world, these doorways and the 10 people behind them recommended by somebody you admire and trust.
You choose a doorway and enter.
There you find that the recommended person also recommends 10 doorways, each with a recommended person behind it.
After you have walked through a series of 9 such doorways, you will have had access to 10⁹, one billion choices (these choices can be repeats).
By this means the Matrix allows for the construction of pathways between the most far-separated people. The fact that these pathways exist does not mean that they will BE followed. It means that they CAN be followed.
It means that whereas before connections did not exist and in many cases discovery was impossible, now there are (potential) ways to everybody and everything.
All is closer than we imagine.

*Darius Mans holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT, and lives between Washington D.C. and Salvador da Bahia.
Between 2000 and 2004 he served as the World Bank’s Country Director for Mozambique and Angola. In that capacity, Darius led a team which generated $150 million in annual lending to Mozambique, including support for public private partnerships in infrastructure which catalyzed over $1 billion in private investment.
Darius was an economist with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, where he worked closely with the U.S. Treasury and the IMF to establish a framework to avoid debt repudiation and to restructure private commercial debt in Brazil and Chile.
He taught Economics at the University of Maryland and was a consultant to KPMG on infrastructure projects in Latin America.
