Go to → Ramita Navai
On the streets of Cairo, women protesters are facing the threat of sexual assault and harassment, sometimes by mobs of men. Unreported World reveals claims that some of those men are being paid to carry out the violent attacks. With Egypt in the midst of a revolution, many of the women fighting for change in their country are now too scared to take part in public demonstrations because of the threat to their safety. This episode first aired on 07/12/2012. Unreported World reporter Ramita Navai travels to Cairo to meet some of the women who have been victims of sexual assault, but are now fighting back - and investigates if this is a ploy designed to silence women at a time when they are trying to get their voices heard.
