Simon McKerrell is Reader in Music and Society at Newcastle University. In this interview, he discusses his graduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and St. Andrews University; his research on traditional Scottish music and continued performance as a bagpiper; and his focus on the social impact of music, music and identities, government agencies, cultural policy, and public discourses on heritage.
