THE MATRIX was built in an obscure record shop (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar found it) in the shimmering Brazilian port city of Salvador. It began with the (living) artists in MATRIX RADIO — one of The Guardian's 10 best below — and moved on to universality. It was inspired in Borges' Aleph (itself inspired in the Kabbala) which contains the entirety of the universe inside it ... but unlike the discernible hum (which Borges describes) emitted by an Aleph inside the pre-Islamic pillar of Cairo's mosque of Amr, this Brazilian Aleph sings. And dances!
